Maintain your wood floors

How to maintain your wood floor?

First step to cleaning your hardwood floors in using a vaccum regularly. It is the most efficient way to remove dust and abrasives from the surface and joints. Most companies will recommend you use their cleaners and conditioners, by using their products you are guaranteed that you are using the product made for that type of floor, oiled or pre varnished. By using those products you’ll have an instruction manual explaining each step to take. If you don’t use the products recommended and decide to use regular floor soap then mix a cap full of soap for every gallon of water, make sure the water is warm, then soak your mop for 30 seconds and wring it out till it’s damp and you can start. Never saturate your floor with water when cleaning make sure the mop is damp. To much water can infiltrate the wood fibers and damage the floor. A soiled mop can also leave traces on the floor, change the micro fibre cover of the mop and wash it regularly. Oiled floors should always be maintained with the products sold by the company the floor comes from to avoid problems. Oil floors are easy to repair as repair kits are available by every company that sells an oil finish.

“Wood floors are very resistant but are not indestructible, prevention is necessary”.

In areas with high traffic  area rugs should be placed and  felt pads should be placed under heavy furniture and chairs, to avoid scratches. Spills should be quickly taken care of to avoid liquids from entering the floor boards and always make sure the humidity level remains between 37% and 50% to avoid further problems. By following this guide your floor will be looking great for many years to come.
